Samhain arrives again, the veil thins, and the Wheel of the Year completes another sacred turn. This season, I’m truly feeling this Sabbat’s duel energy, as both an ending and a beginning. It’s like I’m standing between worlds: my back illuminated by the embers of what has been, even as my heart and mind open to what is becoming. It’s the Witch’s New Year, my new year, and a threshold when time itself feels fluid as lessons of the past cycle whisper their last words of wisdom before dissolving into possibility.
As I wait within in this liminal space, I feel an echo of every season that has led me here. The seeds of intention I planted last Samhain have grown, blossomed, and are now returning to the soil of my becoming. The work of release, refinement, and remembrance have shaped me. I can feel the weight and worth of all I’ve endured, as I begin relaxing into the hush, settling in as preparation for the next great crescendo. Samhain, after all, is not just about endings. This is the stillness that prepares us for creation once more.

Let’s explore this turning together—not as an ending to mourn, but as an integration to celebrate. The year has been long, rich, and transformative. Now, as the darkness deepens, it invites us to rest in reflection, to remember who we have become, and to choose what we will carry forward into the next cycle of light… And this year, I am as ready as I’ve ever been.

The Completed Cycle: Reflections on the Past
Each Samhain, the energy turns inward, asking us to take inventory of our growth and to see the ways in which our intentions have matured and manifested. Looking back over the past year, I see a clear thread of transformation running through every season. I released patterns of overwork and self-denial that were once disguised as devotion. I learned to balance ease with effort, trusting that sustainability is a form of strength.

This year has been one of profound refinement, rooting into authenticity, and preparing to expand into increasing visibility. From the bold shifts of spring to the sacred stillness of fall, every turn of the Wheel has carried a new lesson about sovereignty and self-trust for me. There were moments of discomfort, yes, but also countless glimpses of grace. Each experience—the joyful and the trying—has shaped me into someone both softer and stronger.
The gift of all this reflection is perspective. Truly, when we pause long enough to witness our evolution, we realize how every challenge served our unfolding. At Samhain, this awareness is our harvest, representing the wisdom we can only glean from integrating our experiences. It’s a time when the fruits of our labor become nourishment for the soul.

Lessons of Light & Shadow
Samhain’s magick lies in its honesty. It doesn’t ask us to turn away from the dark, instead, it encourages us to try and understand its purpose. From this perspective, we reclaim the darkness, seeing it not an absence of light, but the womb from which all light is born. This season invites us to look at the shadows we face with reverence rather than fear.
This past year, I learned to meet my shadows with even more compassion, becoming aware of the subtle self-rejections in my desire for control. My resistance, avoidance, and fear of being seen were all teachers in disguise. They showed me where I had mistaken survival for safety, and where I had confused self-protection for self-respect. By walking into these shadows consciously, I discovered that they were not barriers, but opportunities to grow. Each one has been leading me deeper into more wholeness, sovereignty, and alignment.

In the mirror of darkness, we meet our truth. It is here, in the quiet acceptance of both our strengths and our struggles, that integration happens. This is the heart of shadow work—not to mindlessly purge what we reject as imperfect, but to learn how to embrace its depth as part of our divine design. Samhain reminds us that healing isn’t merely about becoming light alone; it is about learning to love all that the light reveals.

Gratitude & Grace: Harvest of the Heart
Gratitude is the bridge between what has been and what is to come. When we pause to give thanks for the journey behind us, we transform our memories into meaning. At this sacred turning point, I find myself overflowing with appreciation for what I have accomplished, as well as for how—in integrating both the challenges that led to them and the celebrations that resulted from them—I have become my greatest accomplishment.

As I offer my gratitude to the cycles of intention, growth, cultivation, and harvest that have carried me forward, it also organically extends to the natural world. I’m thankful for the soil, the stars, and the spirits that have held and nurtured me through it all. In this acknowledgment, I feel a deep belonging: a reminder that my growth is not separate from nature’s, but a reflection of it. It’s this gratitude that has become my most powerful magick: the alchemical process that transforms endings into beginnings.
I’m grateful for the strength that once looked like struggle, for the patience I learned through process, and for the small miracles that arrived in quiet moments. Most of all, I’m grateful for my courage to keep showing up, refining, and rising. Every lesson, every tear, and every triumph from this year’s harvest are becoming the seeds of grace I will bring with me into the next season of growth.

Choosing Renewal: Stepping into the New Year
Crossing the threshold of Samhain, we receive an invitation to dream anew. The space between the old and new years is one of potential: a fertile void waiting to be seeded with our intentions. Here, we have the opportunity to shift from reflection to readiness, and from gratitude into creation.
This is not a moment to rush or to force clarity. It’s a time to listen. What whispers are rising from within? What visions are beginning to take form? For me, the coming year holds a theme of continued refinement, not necessarily through more harsh cutting, but through polishing and cultivation. It feels like I’ll be learning the art of nurturing what’s already been revealed; allowing beauty and brilliance to take root and expand naturally.
I’m feeling tired, having pushed myself hard to clear out long-neglected spaces in my home this past month, but also refreshed. As I look into my newly refinished guest room and office, I am invigorated by all the possiblities they hold. I am ready, because I did what was necessary to become ready, and now I settle back into a space of presence. It’s time to allow the work I’ve already done to carry me forward with more flow and harmony.

At this sacred gateway, I’m reminded that real evolution doesn’t erase what came before, but it will integrate it. Truly, the person I am becoming is built upon the foundation of every version I have already been, and all those I’m still learning to be. To honor that truth is to cross into the new year with reverence and joy—not chasing any particular transformation, but rather, evermore embodying the metamorphosis I’ve already initiated.

Moving Forward: Devotion in Flow
At this time of transition, I’ve been looking to astrology for guidance and confirmation, as I have come to love doing. What I’ve noticed is an interesting, watery dance between Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn. Of course, there are other planets and aspects coming into the mix too, but the first month of our fresh cycle is heavily leaning into the energies of these planets—and they’re all in water signs. It would seem the cosmos is conspiring to help us all cleanse and purify ourselves as this new cycle starts.

Mercury, in Scorpio, just made a trine to both Jupiter (in Cancer) and Saturn (retrograde in Pisces) last week, leading down a path that Mars (also in Scorpio) quickly followed at the begging of this week. Today, Jupiter and Saturn came into their own 1° orb of influence as they approach their own trine (perfecting on November 17th), which, because it will be turning retrograde on November 9th, Mercury will make a second trine to on the 20th (right as we have our Scorpio New Moon)… But wait, that’s not the end of this story yet. Mercury then turns direct and makes a third set of trines to these two generational planets before November ends.
So, what does it all mean? Well, it’ll be different for all of us, but essentially it’s giving: baptism. All of this water, with Mercury continually checking-in and refining the energy, the expansive nurturing potential of Jupiter in Cancer, paired with Saturn retrograde’s power in Pisces to help us integrate the type of devotion that extends far beyond ourselves… To put it plainly, this next month will be asking us all to trust in the cleansing flow of renewal. I guess sometimes, the greatest agents of change are the intentional proclamations that then guide us into unknown territory of our future; that’s how we become cocreators of our lives, by choosing our vision, but then also allowing and making room for divine assistance.

Conclusion: The Eternal Turn of Life’s Cycles Offers Us All Ongoing Refinement & Renewal
Samhain is both culmination and commencement, closing one chapter while quietly beginning to outline the next. In its stillness, we find clarity. In its darkness, we find faith. In its promise of renewal, we find our place in the endless rhythm of becoming. Exactly what’s around the next turn, we will have to wait and see, but when we embrace exactily where we are now—even when it’s a liminal void, full of nothing but potential—we practice the presence that will make every eventual experience more fulfilling.
As I cross through this gateway personally, I’m doing so with peace and trust. The past year, in all its beauty and challenge, has served its purpose. The lessons have been harvested, the gratitude offered, and much needed balance finally restored. What remains now is the continual processes of integration and refinement, delving into winter’s fertile silence knowing that it’s filled with potential, and moving towards the next bloom—even as the seed lays dormant.
